Welcome to Dewan

Explore and Settle

In Dewan, you lead a tribe exploring a wild landscape of forests, mountains, deserts, and badlands. Resources are dwindling, and you must break Camp and expand across the territory to ensure survival.

You will collect Terrain Cards and spend them to place Camps across the Game Map. Along the way, you will complete Story Tiles to earn points, gather Berry tokens, and kindle Fire to light your path.

The game ends when any player places their final Camp (their 9th). After finishing the current round so everyone has equal turns, the player with the most points wins.

Tutorial Overview

Glossary

Artifact

One of three resource types shown on some Terrain cards and required by certain Story tiles. You gain Artifacts by having Camps adjacent to spaces with Artifact symbols on the map, or from cards tucked under your Tribe board.

Berry
Berry

Tokens placed on Berry symbols during setup (2 per symbol). When you place a Camp in a zone containing Berries, you take 1 Berry. Each Berry is worth 2 points at end of game. Berry symbols on Terrain cards under your Tribe board also count.

Camp
Camp

A wooden piece in your colour placed on the Game Map. Each player has 9 Camps: 8 start on the Tribe board and 1 (the Starting Camp) begins on the map. Camps are placed by discarding Terrain cards matching the path you travel. Placing your final Camp triggers the end of the game.

Card Row

A row of 6 face-up Terrain cards next to the Game Map. When you Take 2 Cards, you must choose 2 adjacent cards from this row. Gaps are refilled from the draw pile.

Crystal

One of three resource types shown on some Terrain cards and required by certain Story tiles. Gained through adjacency or cards under the Tribe board.

Dewan Token

The first-player marker. The player holding the Dewan token takes the first turn each round. Play proceeds clockwise.

Fire

A symbol found on completed Story tiles and on some Terrain cards placed under the Tribe board. Each Fire symbol is worth 1 point. The player with the most Fire symbols scores an additional 4-point bonus (tied players all receive the bonus).

Game Map
Game Map

The hex-based playing area assembled from Territory tiles during setup. It contains 5 Terrain types: Badlands, Mountain, Desert, Forest, and Water. Players place Camps on non-Water spaces by discarding matching Terrain cards.

Pigment

One of three resource types shown on some Terrain cards and required by certain Story tiles. Gained through adjacency or cards under the Tribe board.

Starting Camp

Your 9th Camp, placed on the centre of your Starting territory tile during setup. When you begin a path from your Starting Camp, the first card you discard can be of any Terrain type. Starting Camps do not count toward Story tile requirements.

Story Tile
Story Tile

The primary source of points. Each Story tile shows Terrain and resource requirements that must be met by your Camps on the map and cards under your Tribe board. Completed Story tiles are slid upward on the Tribe board and grant you 1 bonus Terrain card. Each tile also shows a point value and may include Fire symbols.

Terrain Card
Terrain Card

Cards showing one or two Terrain types and sometimes a resource symbol. Used to traverse the Game Map when placing Camps -- you must discard one card matching each Terrain type you cross. Cards can also be placed under your Tribe board (at the 3rd, 5th, and 7th Camp) to count as zones and resources for Story tile requirements.

Tribe Board
Tribe Board

Your personal player board. It holds your 8 unplaced Camps in numbered slots and up to 4 Story tiles on the left side. Camps are always taken from the leftmost available slot, and different slots trigger different effects when emptied.

Water Zone

A zone of connected Water spaces. You cannot place Camps on Water spaces, but you can cross an entire Water zone by discarding just 1 Water card. Camps adjacent to Water zones satisfy Water requirements on Story tiles.

Zone
Zone

A group of 1 or more connected hex spaces of the same Terrain type on the Game Map. Zones are how Terrain requirements on Story tiles are measured -- having Camps in 2 Forest zones means 2 separate groups of connected Forest hexes, each with at least one of your Camps.
